The final list of NRC has been released in Assam today. Before issuing the list, Section 144 was implemented in many districts of the state. 3.11 crore people have been included in the list of NRC. While 19 lakh people have been excluded from the list.
According to media reports, the future of about 40 lakh people was to be decided under this final list. Although those whose names are not included in this list, they can appeal in the Foreign Tribunal. Tight security arrangements have been made in Assam. Section 144 has been imposed in many areas. The same Central Government assured the people of Assam that those who are not named in the list will not be taken into custody and will be given every possible opportunity to prove their citizenship. The government has also increased the time limit for filing appeals from 60 to 120 days.
