Ranjan Gogoi To Retire Today


Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is retiring on 17 November. And today is the last working day of him in the Supreme Court. Gogoi took the chair of Chief Justice on 3 October. Many big and important decisions are on his name.  As he took some of the bold decisions which were pending since long.  One of them is the Ayodhya Ram temple case.

In this matter that has been going on for decades, before his retirement, he has given a verdict through a bench headed by him. This is one of the finest and bold decision for any judge.  Apart from this, he has also given decisions in many big decisions in cases like Sabarimala temple, Rafael Deal. His tenure as Chief Justice will be memorable.

Born on 18 November 1954 in Dibrugarh, Assam, Gogoi studied at Don Bosco School and then obtained a law degree from Delhi University after passing from Stephens College in Delhi. His father Kesab Chandra Gogoi was a Congress leader and was also the Chief Minister of the state for some time during 1982.

At one time when Ranjan Gogoi, father was asked if his son would also enter politics, he had said that his son would never enter politics but perhaps one day he will definitely become the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the country. Ranjan Gogoi has realized these words of his father.
