3 months important in Assam,provide proof for citizenship


Refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will also have to give proof of their religion to get Indian citizenship.Non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will also be required to provide proof of their religion to apply for Indian citizenship under CAA. Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain and Zoroastrian religions have to submit and prove through documents, that they have arrived in India on or before 31 December 2014.

The government official said that any person who wants citizenship of India under CAA will have to give proof of his religious affiliation and fulfill all the conditions issued under CAA. Under the Citizenship Amendment Act, a provision has been made to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan on or before 31 December 2014.

The time under which application has to be submitted is of only 3 months.Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister requested the Center to keep the application period short for getting citizenship in Assam.
