India recorded 40,953 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,59,558, according to the Union health ministry's dashboard which was updated at 8 AM on Saturday. This is the highest number in last 111 days as on November 29, new 41,810 cases were recorded in a single day.
With this rise, the total number of active cases in the country reached to 2,88,394. On Saturday, the total number of cases reached to 11,555,284 out of which 2.36% are active cases.
India has been registering over 20,000 daily cases on 10 consecutive days. The gap between daily cases and daily recoveries is widely increasing. There were 23,653 recoveries over 40,953 fresh cases recorded in last 24 hours.
As Country is in worrying note on covid-19 situation, the centre wrote on Friday to all states and Unions territories, urging them to ensure that all Covid-19 appropriate behaviour is being followed. Union Home secretary Ajay Bhalla said, "It has been observed that it is largely due to laxity in the observance of COVID-appropriate behaviour by people, especially at crowded places."
