Mahindra Defence to build armoured tactical vehicles for Indian Army

 

On Tuesday, Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd, a subsidiary of the diversified Mahindra Group, announced that it has awarded a contract worth Rs 1,056 crore to produce armoured tactical vehicles for the Indian Army's recce and weapon carrier needs. Starting in 2021, the procurement will be completed in four years.


The LSV was designed and manufactured in-house by the Mumbai-based company to the Indian Army's exacting standards. According to the company, the vehicle's modular design makes it future-proof. 


It also added that the original equipment manufacturer of the vehicle, Mahindra Defence has sufficient intellectual property (IP) and capabilities in all aspects from the manufacture of the LSV variants to complete life cycle support.


Mahindra Defence issued in the statement that, “An Indian Battalion deployed in a UN peacekeeping mission in Africa is already using one version of the LSV. Other friendly foreign countries have also inquired about this vehicle for their operations, suggesting that this armoured vehicle designed and manufactured in India has export potential."
