Maoist leader arrested in Andhra, 60 members banned


Andhra Pradesh police arrested a senior Maoist leader on Tuesday in the Alluri Sitharama Raju region, which led to the surrender of 60 members of the CPI (Maoist) banned party.
Satish Kumar, Superintendent of Police Alluri Sitharama Raju, said the arrested Maistist Vanathala Rama Krishna was secretary of the local committee and was involved in the assassination of Telegu Desam Party (TDP) member Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former MP Siveri Soma in Araku in 2017.

Police found Rs 39 lakh in his hand. In addition, a 5 kg grenade bomb, five explosives, batteries, a 9-mm pistol and ammunition were seized from the arrested Maoist.

According to police, the arrested Maoist was involved in 124 cases, including 14 murders and 13 rounds of ammunition, landmines and arson.

SP Satish Kumar said 33 members of the CPI (Maoist) and 27 soldiers, including eight women, surrendered to police.

One of the volunteer soldiers, Korra Chinnayya, better known as Srikanth, was involved in 95 cases. Each dedicated CPI (Maoist) member holds l 1 lakh in his or her head.

"With the recent dedication, imprisonment and death of senior leaders, the Maoist group has become weak in the Alluri Sitharama Raju region," the official said.
