AIADMK will expel OPS, its supporters from the party; Defiant Leader Promise Action

The AIADMK general council on Monday expelled rival leader O Panneerselvam from the party's primary membership and his post as treasurer, but the defiant leader said his rival Edappady K Palaniswami had no right to show him the door and preferred to announce the latter's "expulsion". from the party.
A special resolution moved by senior leader Natham R Viswanathan to impeach Mr. Panneerslvam and his supporters was unanimously passed at its meeting at the Marriage Hall here amid much applause from the members of the General Council.

The resolution accused Mr Panneerselvam of siding with the DMK regime and having links with ruling party leaders and working to weaken the AIADMK. OPS acted against the interests of the party, its goals and principles. He took steps, including approaching the police, to stop the General Council meeting on June 23, which he convened with Mr. Palaniswami. The AIADMK alleged that Mr. Panneerselvam was pursuing selfish interests.

The party expelled Mr. Panneerselvam from his post as treasurer and primary membership. It also excluded his supporters, R Vaithilingam, PH Manoj Pandian - both legislators and former MLA JCD Prabakar.

In response, Mr. Panneerselvam said that he had been elected as the coordinator of "1.5 million" party workers and that neither Mr. Palaniswami nor another leader, KP Munusamy, had the right to expel him.

Condemning the two for "unilaterally" expelling him and against party rules, Mr. Panneerselvam said, "I am expelling them from the primary membership" of the AIADMK.

Responding to journalists' questions about the next course of action, he said he would approach the courts with the support of party workers and ensure justice.
