With an aim to increase the uptake of the preventive dose of the COVID vaccine among the eligible adult population, the 75-day- 'Vaccination against COVID Amrit Mahotsava' was launched on Friday, the Ministry of Health and Welfare informed.
The special vaccination drive is part of the celebration for Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and aims to provide a free preventive dose to all adults (18 years and above) eligible population at the government's COVID Vaccination Centers (CVCs).
India recorded a one-day increase of 20,038 new coronavirus infections, taking the number of cases to 4,37,10,027, while the number of active cases of the disease rose to 1,39,073, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. .
The death toll from the disease climbed to 5,25,604, with 47 new deaths reported, data updated at 8 am showed.
Active cases now account for 0.32 percent of the total number of infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.48 percent, the health ministry said.
The country's active number of COVID-19 cases has seen an increase of 2,997 cases in a span of 24 hours, the data showed.
