Showcase Notice for "Cold Tea" Officer Shivraj Chouhan

A Madhya Pradesh government official on Tuesday received a notice to serve cold tea to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Junior supply officer Rakesh Kanauha was asked to explain the "breach of protocol in VIP service". The Press Trust of India news agency said the chief minister did not take tea as his break was short, but the notice was issued to the official as a warning. However, it was later recalled after outrage on social media.
The chief minister went to the Khajuraho airport VIP lounge for breakfast after conducting the civic body polls on Monday. There was an outage.

The notice issued to Mr. Kanauh by Sub-Divisional Magistrate DP Dwivedi read, "You were entrusted with the responsibility of providing tea and breakfast but the quality of tea provided to the Chief Minister was inferior and it was served cold... It was a violation of the protocol of VIP duties".

The notification stated that such lapses may create an embarrassing situation for the district administration regarding the protocol meant for VVIPs.

The notice also asked the official to explain why strict action should not be taken against him. He was asked to send his reply within three days or "unilateral action will be taken against you," the notice said.

The District Collector later retracted this announcement saying that the Chief Minister did not comment in this regard. The SDM was asked to cancel the notice.

The recall came after an outcry on social media where the announcement was leaked and widely circulated.

The state opposition Congress took note of the matter. Party spokesperson Narendra Saluja said, "People may not even get ration or be able to get an ambulance, but the chief minister should not get cold tea."
