Two men arrested for murder of BJP Youth Wing leader Praveen Nettaru in Karnataka

Two Muslim men from Bellare have been arrested in connection with the murder of BJP youth wing leader Praveen Nettaru.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district secretary in Dakshin Kannada, Praveen Nettaru, was killed in Sulia on 26 July. He closed his poultry shop and was returning home when he was attacked by men on motorcycles and carrying machetes. Local residents called the police, who took the thirty-two-year-old man covered in blood to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

There have been massive protests in several parts of Karnataka following the murder, as members of the BJP's youth wing say the party's state government has failed to protect them. Visuals of protesters surrounding BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel's car and him shouting have also gone viral.

Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai strongly condemned the attack and promised a speedy investigation.

In Bellare and Sulia, the protests were particularly angered by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's call for a bandh. Hundreds of people joined as his body was taken to his home. Some right-wing organizations claim that the Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India are behind the murder.

Six police teams were formed and 15 people were taken into custody for questioning, police said. Three of the teams were sent to neighboring regions.
