Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022: BJP Releases Fourth List; Alpesh Thakor To Contest From South Gandhinagar


Ahmedabad: BJP has released the fourth list of candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections. There are 12 candidates in this list. BJP has so far announced a total of 179 candidates. Candidates are yet to be announced for three seats. 

Meanwhile, BJP has given ticket to Alpesh Thakor, former Congress MLA from Radhanpur and OBC leader who had joined BJP in 2019,  from South Gandhinagar.

Whereas BJP has announced the names of 160 candidates in the first list, six in the second, one in the third and now 12 in the fourth.

According to the fourth list, Alpesh Thakor will now contest from Gandhinagar South. Keyur Rokadiya, mayor of Vadodara city, has got ticket from Sayajigunj seat of  Vadodara. The names of the candidates for three seats are yet to be announced.

 Alpesh Thakor, one of the faces of the anti-BJP movement in Gujarat during the 2017 elections, joined the BJP in 2019. He had won on a Congress ticket in 2017 but lost his Radhanpur seat in the by-elections in 2019.

Ritaben Patel got ticket from Gandhinagar North, Bakaji Thakor from Kalol, Babu Singh Jadhav from Vatva. Dr Rajul Desai, former member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and Gujarat State Child Rights Commission, is given ticket from Patan.

Out of 12 seats, seven were with Congress including Patan, Radhanpur, Gandhinagar South, Kalol, Petlad, Jhalod and Jetpur. The rest of the seats saw major changes, as except Arjunsinh Chauhan from Mehmedabad seat, all other BJP MLAs have been changed.

Pradipsinh Jadeja, former MoS (home) in Gujarat government and senior BJP leader, had expressed his wish not to contest this year, and his seat Vatva in Ahmedabad city is allocated to Babu Singh Jadhav. Likewise, sitting MLAs on Himmatnagar, Gandhinagar North and Sayajigunj are not repeated.

Assembly elections will be held in Gujarat in two phases. In the first phase, voting will be held on 89 seats on December 1. On the other hand, voting for the remaining 93 seats will be held on December 5. The results of the assembly elections will be declared on December 8.
