Hindu Leader Sudhir Suri Shot Dead In Amritsar, Punjab; Was Protesting Against Desecration Of Idols

Amritsar: Hindu leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead on Friday in Amritsar, Punjab. According to Amritsar police, the lone attacker, Sandeep Singh, was arrested immediately and the pistol seized. The accused is being questioned as to why the murder was committed. In view of the tension, heavy police force has been deployed in the area.

Suri was the leader of Shiv Sena Hindustan. When the incident happened, he was protesting outside Gopal Mandir against the desecration of idols. His supporters were also present with him. Then suddenly they were fired upon. He was admitted to a private hospital in an injured condition. where he died.

Sudhir Suri was on target of Khalistan supporters: Some time back also his assassination conspiracy was exposed, which was hatched by Khalistan supporters sitting abroad.

Where the gunmen ran away, it is not clear yet. In retaliation, Suri's security personnel also opened fire in the air. Sources said the attacker had come to the place with three others in an SUV but they escaped. 

Suri had police protection but the attacker was successful in landing at least two shots that killed him. At the time that he was shot, he was on a dharna on the street, sitting next to an associate who was seen firing back at the attacker from a revolver. 

The authorities have appealed to the people to keep calm and not give in to any communal calls as tense messages were being exchanged among residents of Amritsar.
