Himachal Pradesh: Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu Will Be New CM; Mukesh Agnihotri Will Be Deputy CM

Shimla: After a long uproar in Himachal Pradesh, the name of the Chief Minister has been announced. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu will be the new CM of the state. His name was announced in the Congress Legislature Party meeting on Saturday evening.
Along with him, Mukesh Agnihotri from Pratibha Singh's camp has been made deputy CM. The swearing-in will take place on Sunday at 11 am. For this, Congress Legislature Party leader Sukhwinder Sukhu will meet the Governor and seek time.
In Himachal, since the election results were declared on December 8, there was a ruckus about the CM. Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's wife Pratibha Singh was also lobbying for CM. However, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu went ahead in this race after opinion of the MLAs was obtained. According to sources, Sukhu got the benefit of being close to the Gandhi family.

Earlier, Pratibha Singh, wife of former state CM Virbhadra Singh, did not agree on the name of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. She was adamant on making Mukesh Agnihotri the Chief Minister from her camp. By 3 pm, Sukhwinder was ahead in the race against Pratibha Singh and his name was considered almost final for the next CM post.

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, a former president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, is a four-term legislator and is considered close to party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Pratibha Singh said she accepted decision of high command

Shortly after the decision was announced, Pratibha Singh said that she accepted the decision of the Congress high command.

The decision didn't go well with the Pratibha faction and, despite the approval from the top leadership of the party, her supporters sloganeered and protested against the move.

Sources said that the Legislature Party meeting passed a one-line resolution and left the decision on the party's high command.

On the other hand, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, "We will run a very good government. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge will attend the oath ceremony tomorrow."
