Injured Rohit Sharma Will Not Play In First Test Against Bangladesh, KL Rahul Will Take Charge

Mumbai: Team India captain Rohit Sharma will be ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh due to a thumb injury. Rohit Sharma suffered a thumb injury while fielding in the second ODI against Bangladesh at Mirpur on 7 December. According to BCCI, Rohit Sharma will be out of the first test. Whether he will play in the second and final Test of the series, the medical team will decide later.
Bengal's Abhimanyu Easwaran, who hit back-to-back centuries against Bangladesh-A recently, has been named as Rohit's replacement. KL Rahul will take over captaincy duties.
A BCCI media release said Rohit has been advised appropriate management for this injury and will not be available for the first Test against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team will decide on his availability for the second and final Test at a later stage.
Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja are also yet to fully recover from their respective shoulder and knee injuries. Selectors have named Navdeep Saini and Saurabh Kumar as their replacements.
