Patna: Upendra Kushwaha, chairman of the National Parliamentary Board of the ruling Janata Dal United in Bihar, has once again alleged that he is being sidelined in the party.
He said in a press conference in Patna on Tuesday that Nitish Kumar had given him a position without power and ignored his suggestions. "I was definitely made the chairman of the parliamentary board. I thought I will get an opportunity to discharge the responsibilities. I will be able to protect the interests of the workers."
No power to nominate members
Describing the post of Chairman of the Parliamentary Board as a lollipop, he said, "But later I came to know that when I was made the Chairman of the Parliamentary Board, a lolliop was handed over to me. I became the Chairman but I had no power to nominate members. What does that mean? I've never been asked for any suggestions."
Post was made meaningless
He said Nitish made him the JD (U) Parliamentary Board chief after amending the party constitution. He added that the post was made irrelevant.
“The amendment says the national president of the party will nominate the chairman and also the members. But I cannot even nominate members. “So, how can the board function without the committee?”
Upendra Kushwaha also said that if the party wants, it can withdraw the membership of the Legislative Council from him.
‘I can leave Legislative Council membership’
Kushwaha said, “I didn't regret for a moment leaving the membership of Rajya Sabha, I didn’t regret for a moment while leaving the post of minister in the Government of India, so what is the big thing about MLC (Legislative Council membership). If the Chief Minister or the party wants, the MLC can be withdrawn.”
‘Save party and Lav Kush community’
He said further, "We still have full faith in the Chief Minister. We respect him. Even today, with folded hands, we pray to the Chief Minister to save the party and Luv Kush Samaj. There is no question of my personal insult in the party." Gandhi ji's belongings were also thrown away. For me, it is more important to protect the interests of the common people."
The rhetoric of Upendra Kushwaha and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar continues to be in headlines. It is also being speculated that Kushwaha may soon leave JDU and go with BJP.
