Joshimath Sinking Updates: Rs 1.5 Lakh Advance Assistance To Affected Residents, Hotels To Be Demolished First Within A Week

Joshimath: In Joshimath, the residents of 723 houses which have developed cracks will be given assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh. 50 thousand for shifting and one lakh rupees will be given as advance of compensation. What will be the final compensation, it will be decided later. The survey will be completed in a week and after that this help will be given.

Amid ongoing protests by the owner of one of the hotels damaged by the landslide and subsidence in the Joshimath, R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary to Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami, said that hotels will be demolished within a week and every affected family will get Rs 1.5 lakh immediately. He said that they have requested people to support them in the dismantling of 2 hotels.

"Compensation will be given according to the compensation that was given in Uttar Kashi. Badrinath-like compensation cannot be given here," he added.

No houses will be demolished as of now

M Sundaram said that no houses will be demolished as of now, only 2 hotels will be demolished. Red marks have been placed on the houses to evacuate them. He said that talks have also been held with the hotel owners, they have agreed to cooperate in the administrative action. 

In front of Hotel Malari Inn, the family of the hotel owner was protesting by lying on the road. Secretary Sundaram said that talks have been held with these people. 

'Tell the compensation rate and demolish hotel'

Thakur Rana, the owner of Malari Inn, said – The government is not ready to give compensation like Badrinath, it will give compensation at the market rate. We said tell the rate and demolish the hotel, they did not tell the rate. Now we too will not move from here.

Meanwhile, rain has started in upper reaches of Joshimath, snowfall in Badrinath. Chamoli Collector Himanshu Khurana told that cracks have appeared in Bahuguna of Karnaprayag. The team of IIT Roorkee is studying there. Necessary steps will be taken after their report.
