Women's T20 World Cup 2023: Deepti Sharma Became First Indian To Achieve This Feat

Cape Town: Richa Ghosh (44 not out) and skipper Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (33) helped India win Group B match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 on Wednesday after Deepti Sharma (15/3) bowled brilliantly. India beat West Indies by six wickets.

West Indies, batting first, set a target of 119 runs in front of India. India achieved this target by losing four wickets in just 18.1 overs.

For the Windies, Stafanie Taylor top-scored with 42 runs off 40 balls with six fours, while Shaman Campbell contributed 30 runs off 36 balls. Apart from dismissing both these batsmen, Deepti also took the wicket of Effie Fletcher.

Chasing the target, the Indian team got off to a brisk start, though the Windies came back in the match with the help of their spinners. Harmanpreet and Richa anchored the innings with a match-winning partnership of 72 runs after India lost three quick wickets.

Deepti Sharma's achievement

Deepti Sharma on Wednesday became the first Indian cricketer to take 100 wickets in T20 International cricket during the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 Group-B match against West Indies.

Deepti dismissed Effie Fletcher as her 100th wicket, while in this match she achieved three successes while conceding just 15 runs in four overs. Deepti has taken wickets in 89 T20 matches played for India at an average of 19.07. After Deepti, Yuzvendra Chahal (91) is the highest wicket-taker for India.
