Bihar: What Is Political Significance of Asaduddin Owaisi's Padyatra Of Seemanchal And Should RJD Be Worried?

Patna: The eyes of leading political parties are on the Seemanchal areas of Bihar regarding the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi is on a two-day Bihar tour.

Owaisi will launch Padyatra in Purnea and Kishanganj, two major towns of the Seemanchal region on March 18-19, informed state AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman.

Owaisi won 5 seats from Seemanchal in 2020 assembly polls

Seemanchal is a Muslim dominated area where Owaisi is particularly focusing. In the 2020 assembly elections, Owaisi won 5 seats from this region. Although his 4 MLAs later joined the RJD. All the four AIMIM MLAs defected except Party State President Akhtarul Iman.

Owaisi is in Seemanchal to give a message to his supporters on this issue. He is once again making a strategy to strengthen his ground and his hold over his supporters and win back the seats he lost due to defection of his MLAs.

Owaisi will visit Baisi-Amaur areas of Purena and some places in Kishanganj district to launch the 'Padyatra' under which AIMIM leaders will interact with the common people and raise the issue of alleged injustice meted out to Seemanchal region by the successive governments.

His presence in Seemanchal region itself is of great significance as the party`s electoral influence is clearly evident on the ground.

RJD will suffer the most

It is said that RJD will suffer the most with the expansion and strengthening of Owaisi in Seemanchal and therefore RJD cadres are worried. Owaisi's party is trying to strengthen itself in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal area.

In the Gopalganj by-election, AIMIM`s Abdul Salam had bagged 12,212 votes while the RJD candidate was defeated by the BJP nominee by a margin of just 1,794 votes.

Even RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav conceded that the AIMIM candidate had played a role in the defeat of the RJD candidate. He has also dubbed AIMIM as ‘B’ team of BJP.

Owaisi will participate in various programmes at different places in Seemanchal area. It is being told that Owaisi is eyeing 4 Lok Sabha and 24 Vidhan Sabha in four districts.

Both BJP and ruling Grand Alliance have held meetings in Purnea

All political parties are eyeing Seemanchal. Bihar's main opposition BJP's senior leader and Home Minister Amit Shah has held a rally in Purnea, while the ruling Grand Alliance has also started preparations for the Lok Sabha elections by holding a public meeting in Purnia.

Owaisi eying Muslim voters

Owaisi reached Bihar on Friday evening. In the 2-day program, he will hold roadshows and address people by holding public meetings. In this two-day campaign of Seemanchal, Owaisi's eyes are fixed on Muslim voters. In fact, the entire existence of his party, AIMIM, is based on Muslims.

It is being said that due to this visit of Owaisi, the politics of Bihar especially Seemanchal is going to heat up. It is believed that while the ruling party will be on Owaisi's target, the opposition will also be on his target. Isak Alam, Kishanganj district president of AIMIM, says that Owaisi will address a public meeting at Amour in Purnea on March 18 and then address the meeting in Kochadhaman, Kishanganj, while the next day on March 19 he will meet people in Lohagara and Kharkhari Bherbheri.
