Farmers Threaten To Launch Agitation Again Over MSP And Loan Waiver; Samyukt Kisan Morcha Mahapanchayat Held

New Delhi: Samyukt Kisan Morcha, which is demanding legal status for the minimum support price or MSP of crops and waiving off the loans of farmers, has said that if their demands are not met, it will once again intensify the agitation.

In the mahapanchayat convened by the Morcha at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Monday, the farmer leaders expressed their resolve to start the movement once again. Farmer leaders Rakesh Tikait, Yudhveer Singh, Hannan Mollah, Darshan Pal etc addressed the mahapanchayat. 

'Govt will have to bear consequences in elections'

They said that if the central government does not accept the demands of the farmers, then it will have to bear the consequences in the elections. Conferences and yatras will be organized in the states to mobilize the farmers.

Later in the afternoon, a delegation of 15 members of the front met Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar at Krishi Bhavan and handed over a memorandum regarding demands like minimum support price and loan waiver. 

The delegation included farmer leaders Sunilam, Yudhveer Singh, Hannan Mollah, Darshan Pal, Manjit Rai etc. During the meeting, the farmer leaders agreed to be in constant touch with the Agriculture Minister. Farmer leaders said that the committee constituted by the government regarding the problems of the farmers has not done anything yet.

They said that they were under the impression that the government will make a policy regarding agriculture and some concrete steps will be taken for the prosperity of the farmers, but they have been disappointed. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and many other states came to the panchayat.
