Oscars 2023: The Elephant Whisperers Bags Oscar For Best Documentary Short Film, Naatu Naatu Best Original Song

Good news came for India on Monday morning from the 95th Oscar Award Ceremony. The song Naatu Naatu from the film RRR won the award for Best Original Song. At the same time, The Elephant Whispers became the Best Documentary Short Film. Shaunak Sen's All That Breathes, however, missed out. India got nominations in these three categories in the Oscar Awards.

Naatu-Naatu had earlier received the title of Best Original Song at the Golden Globes Awards. Chandrabose, who wrote RRR's Naatu-Naatu song,  and composer MM Keeravani took the trophy at the Oscar ceremony.

Apart from this, The Elephant Whisperers director Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga received the award. During this, Deepika Padukone present in the ceremony became emotional.

Naatu-Naatu became a global sensation

The song became a global sensation - inspiring endless Instagram reels and dance trends on social media - after the film's release in US last year, where its quick tempo and synchronised choreography were an instant hit with the audiences.

Naatu Naatu already made history once in January when it won the Golden Globe for best original song, defeating contenders like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. The same month, the song also won the Critics Choice award for the best song.

"It's not just because of the music or the dance - the entire story of RRR can be summarised within these 10 minutes of Naatu Naatu," the film's director, SS Rajamouli said.

A historical fantasy, featuring superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles, RRR tells the fictional story of two revolutionaries who fight against British rule in India.
