Uttar Pradesh: Preparation For Navratri Fair In Devipatan Temple In Full Swing

Balrampur: Preparations are afoot for the state fair to be held on the occasion of Chaitra Navratri at Shaktipeeth Devi Patan temple complex located in Patan village of Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district, adjacent to Nepal. This huge fair will last for a month.

Temple is one of famous 51 Shakti Peethas of Ma Durga

Devi Patan is a very famous temple situated in Tulsipur, which is around 25 Kms from the district headquarters of Balrampur. 

Best way to reach is to take a train to Gonda Junction and then go to Tulsipur by Bus. Gonda is very well connected to all major cities of India by rail. State capital Lucknow is the nearest airport.

It is the temple of Ma Pateshwari and goes by the name Devi Patan. The temple is one of the famous 51 Shakti Peethas of Ma Durga.

It is said that the right shoulder (called as Pat in hindi), of Mata Sati had fallen here and hence it is also one of the Shakti Peetha and is called as Devi Patan. It is a place of great religious importance and one of the prominent temple of terai region.

Lot of rush during Navratra period

Temple is of great religious importance and there is lot of rush during Navratra period.

People also come here for head shaving ceremony of their kids (also called as Mundan) or to donate hair in case Mundan is done some where else. Its considered sacred to donate hair here.

Shops are being set up in the fair premises

Mahant Mithlesh Nath Yogi of the temple told that shops of makeup items, daily use items and other items are being set up in the fair premises for the Chaitra Navratri fair. Installation of swings and other things for recreation has also begun. 

In the fair, lakhs of devotees from many states including Mumbai, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bengal and Nepal come and pray for fulfillment of their wishes by offering traditional worship of Navadurga including Maa Pateshwari.

Elaborate arrangements have been made

Mahant Yogi told that in view of the influx of lakhs of devotees in the temple, elaborate arrangements have been made by the fair administration for traffic, electricity, drinking water, health, catering, lost and found centers and other necessary camps. 

Special buses and special trains will operate

He told that special buses will be operated from many mandals including Devipatan Mandal, Gorakhpur, Basti, Ayodhya. Apart from this, Mela special trains will operate on the Gorakhpur-Balrampur-Gonda rail section. He said that large number of devotees will come from Nepal also.

Mahant Yogi said that temple administration and district administration are monitoring and reviewing the preparations under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Namrata Srivastava, like every year, security arrangements have been made this year also for the safety of the devotees thronging the fair.
