Maharashtra: 7 Die, Over 30 Hurt As Tree Falls On Temple's Tin Shed In Akola


Akola (Maharashtra): At least 7 people were killed and over 30 injured when a massive tree fell on a tin shed of a temple in Paras village of Balapur tehsil in Maharashtra's Akola district on Sunday evening. They had gathered for a religious programme in Paras.

 
The mishap occurred when heavy rainfall, coupled with strong gusty winds, caused a huge neem tree to fall on the tin shed of Babuji Maharaj Mandir Sansthan.

 

40 devotees were standing under tin shed

 

According to reports, around 40 devotees were standing under the shed when the incident took place.

 

Akola Collector Nima Arora said that four people died on the spot and three others succumbed during treatment. The injured are undergoing treatment, she said.

 

As soon as police received information, police teams and ambulances were rushed to the spot to facilitate the rescue work and rush the injured to the hospital. 

 

JCB machines were pressed into service to lift the broken tree and the collapsed shed. Cops from Balapur Police Station pulled out the buried people with the help of locals. A huge crowd of people gathered at the spot after the tragic incident.
