Modi Should Talk To Qatar To Save Navy Ex-Servicemen: Kharge

New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes tall claims of India emerging as a Vishwaguru, but he has taken no initiative to save eight Indian Navy men facing death sentence in Qatar.

Kharge said these brave soldiers of the country have been held hostage in Qatar and asked why the Government of India is not taking steps to save them. He said that the brave soldiers of the country should be released and the Prime Minister should take initiative in this regard.

He said, “Eight ex-servicemen of the Indian Navy have been held in solitary confinement in Qatar since August last year and are facing the death penalty. The Ministry of External Affairs says that no information about the allegations against these ex-servicemen has been given to India so far."

The Congress President said, “This is a kind of surrender of the Modi government and his stand exposes the tall claims of making India a ‘Vishwaguru’. India and Qatar are celebrating the 50th year of diplomatic relations this year. There is a sizeable Indian expatriate community in Qatar."
