Rajasthan: Eminent Shooter Apurvi Chandela Conferred With Honorary Title Of Vidya Varidhi



JAIPUR: Governor and Chancellor Kalraj Mishra on Wednesday conferred the honorary degree of Vidya Varidhi on behalf of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University to Apurvi Chandela at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. Apurvi is the famous shooter of Rajasthan and has won gold medal for the country, 


On this occasion, Governor Mishra lauded Apurvi for making the country proud in shooting by conferring the honorary title of Vidya Varidhi. He felicitated Apurvi Chandela by offering her a shawl and presenting her with shrifal and a memento, and wished her for more achievements in the sports world.


On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. RS Dubey gave detailed information about the activities of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University. Professor of the University Prof. Shastri Kaushalendra Das read out the degree and felicitation letter awarded to Apurvi Chandela. 



Won gold medal in 2019 ISSF World Cup


Apurvi Chandela, 30, competes in the 10 metre air rifle event. She won the gold medal in the 2019 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. She is a recipient of Arjuna award.


Apurvi's father, Kuldeep Singh Chandela, is a hotelier and a sports enthusiast and mother, Bindu Rathore, is a businesswoman, who was a basketball player. She studied Sociology honours from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University.


In her early years, Chandela wanted to become a sports journalist, but she was inspired to take up shooting as a sport by Abhinav Bindra's performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he won a gold medal in shooting. 


Initially, she had to travel for 45 minutes to reach a shooting range in Jaipur. Later on, her parents set up a shooting range for 10-meter air rifle practice for her at their home.
