Wrestlers Protest Is Not A Protest Of Sportspersons But That Of Conspirators: WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Singh

Gonda (UP): WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is facing allegations of sexual abuse by seven women wrestlers, said on Saturday that the ongoing dharna by the wrestlers was not a protest of sportspersons but a protest of the "conspirators".

Singh was talking to reporters at his residence in Bishnoharpur, about 40 km from Gonda in UP on Saturday.

"Why are they constantly speaking against PM Narendra Modi and the Sports Ministry?" he asked.

He asked why the wrestlers were still sitting on dharna although an FIR had been registered against him.

Singh took a strong exception to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's meeting with the wrestlers on Saturday morning.

He said, "Today it became clear who is behind this row. I have been saying from the start that an industrialist and the Congress have a hand in this. They are upset with me." He, however, did not elaborate.

Ready for any kind of probe but won't resign

Singh said he was ready for any kind of probe but won't resign from his post as it would mean he had accepted the charges against him.

"I am completely innocent and have full faith in Supreme Court and Delhi Police. I am ready to face any kind of probe," Singh said.

"Resigning as president of Wrestling Federation of India is not a big thing for me, but I will not quit as a criminal," he said.
