Delhi Sizzles At 46.3 Degrees; Relief Expected Soon; Rain Likely In Many States



New Delhi: The base observatory at Safdarjung in New Delhi recorded the highest temperature of this season at 42.9 degrees on Sunday. Mercury surpassed its earlier high of 42.5 degrees measured on 12th May 2023. 


Parts of the national capital exceeded the threshold of 46 degrees for the first time in the season. Najafgarh topped the list with a sizzling 46.3 degrees, followed by Narela and Pitampura scaling 45-degree mark.


Heat wave will abate on 24 May, showers expected in Delhi


Skymewt Weather said significant relief follows the day after and still better thereon till the weekend. Western disturbance is likely to fetch a prolonged wet spell over northern plains, including Delhi. Capital City will still have decent showers on a couple of days between the 24th and 27th of May 2023. 


Heavy rain and thundershowers with gale speed winds, lightning and chances of hailstorm between 24th and 26th May.  Heat wave will abate 24th onward for the rest of the month. Minimum temperatures will also drop to low 20's for 4-5 days.


Rain, thundershower likely in many states


In the next 24 hours, once again the weather of most of the states of the country is going to change. A new Western Disturbance is going to be active on Tuesday, due to which rain and thunderstorms can be seen in many states. Partly cloudy sky is expected on 23, 24 and 25 May. At the same time, there is a possibility of rain or thunderstorm on 26 and 27 May. 


Rain alert in many states


The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted rains in many statesd including Rajasthan's Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions till Wednesday. Along with Jaipur, Kota and Ajmer, Kota division may also see rain on Wednesday. From May 23, it will rain in North-West India and Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. It will rain in Assam and Meghalaya till May 25 and there is a possibility of rain in many states including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the next 5 days.
