Weather Monsoon: Heavy Rains to Sweep Kerala, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura; Cyclone Biparjoy To Intensify Further


Widespread rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are likely over Lakshadweep, Kerala, Andaman-Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Saturday, said the IMD.


Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms may occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and coastal Karnataka.


Weather forecast for Sunday said widespread rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are forecast over Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman-Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. 


Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms may occur over Assam, Meghalaya and coastal Maharashtra.


The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy is currently located over the east-central Arabian Sea, about 820 km west of Goa, 840 km west-southwest of Mumbai. It is expected to move nearly north-northwestwards maintaining its intensity. 


Tithal Beach closed to tourists until June 14


Biparjoy is expected to intensify further in anticipation of Cyclone Biparjoy, high waves have been observed at Tithal Beach in Valsad, Gujarat on the Arabian Sea coast.


As a precautionary measure, Tithal Beach has been closed to tourists until June 14.


The district administration has asked the fishermen not to venture into the sea and they all have come back. People will be shifted to the village at the seashore if needed, said officials. Shelters have been made for them. Tithal Beach has been closed for tourists till June 14.


Fishermen in Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep advised


Earlier, with Cyclone Biparjoy forecast to be intensified in the next 36 hours, the weather department has also advised fishermen not to venture into the seas off the coast of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.


Yellow alert in dists of Kerala


The districts in Kerala where the yellow alert is issued are Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Kannur.
