Gyanvapi Masjid: HC Stays ASI Survey For One More Day, Hearing Now On Thursday


Allahabad:  The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday stayed the survey of Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi till tomorrow (Thursday). The court will hear the matter again tomorrow.

On the orders of the Supreme Court, the Masjid Intezamia Anjuman Committee (Muslim side) filed a petition in the High Court. The High Court heard this today (on Wednesday).

Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court had stayed the survey till 5 pm on Wednesday (today).

Additional Director of ASI was present during the hearing in Allahabad High Court today.

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, appearing for the Hindu side in the case, told reporters, "An affidavit was presented in the court on behalf of the ASI and it was told that the survey works will cause no harm to the existing structure."

He said, "On this, the counsel for the Anjuman Intezamia has said that he should be given time to read this affidavit. In such a situation, the Allahabad High Court will again hear the matter at 3.30 pm on Thursday. Till then the order has been passed to continue the interim order issued by the Supreme Court. The ASI survey will not be done till the hearing."

Last Friday, the Varanasi court had asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey of the Gyanvapi mosque.

On Monday morning, around 30 members of the ASI team had reached to survey the mosque.

The lawyers of the Hindu side were also present during this survey. The Muslim side had boycotted this survey. The Muslim side said that when the hearing is going on in the Supreme Court in this matter.

During the survey on Monday, bricks and premises were measured in the mosque. Pictures and videos of the mosque were also recorded.

While this survey was going on, then during the hearing, the Supreme Court stayed the survey till 5 pm on Wednesday and asked the Muslim side to go to the Allahabad High Court.
