Madhya Pradesh: Congress Workers Lathi-Charged In Bhopal On Way To Gherao CM House Over Irregularities In Patwari Exam; Many Hurt


Bhopal: Congress staged a big demonstration in Bhopal over the irregularities in the Patwari examination. Party leaders announced to ghearo the CM House. The workers first gathered at the Roshanpura intersection. From here they proceeded shouting slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Staff Selection Board. Police beefed up the security of CM House. The workers were repelled using water cannon.


Police use water cannon


Police stopped the District Congress workers, who were going to gherao the CM House in support of their demand to cancel the Patwari Recruitment Examination, at the Banganga Square. When the activists tried to move ahead by breaking the barricade, the police chased them away by using a water cannon.


Monu Saxena, Mahak among 25-30 activists hurt


Congress MLA from Bhopal's South-West Assembly PC Sharma said, 'We are demanding a CBI inquiry. The government is not ready to listen to us. Police resorted to lathi-charge to stop us. They also used water cannon and this led to stampede. Congress Bhopal City President Monu Saxena has suffered serious injuries. Mehak Rana suffered head imjury. 25 to 50 workers have been injured.”


Sharma said further, 'We were going in a peaceful manner. Wanted to submit a memorandum. This is the muder of democracy. Congress is not afraid. We will keep fighting and not give up our demand of a fair investigation into the irregularities.'


The MLAs and Congress workers sat on the spot. Monu Saxena has taken oath as Bhopal City District Congress President today itself. He has sustained a cut under his eye.


Congress MLA PC Sharma alleged that the police lathi-charged at the behest of the government. We are not going to be afraid, we will keep fighting the battle.


Police did not lathi-charge: Addl DCP


On the allegation of the MLA, Additional DCP Rajesh Singh Bhadauria said, permission was not taken for the demonstration. The police did not lathi charge. All were injured when the barricade fell down. Some policemen have also received injuries. All have been sent for treatment.


Congress woman activist Mehak Rana suffered a serious head injury during the protest. 25 to 30 workers have been injured. Some policemen have also been hurt.


Candidates have also demanded probe


Patwari exam candidates have also demonstrated alleging irregularities in the exam. There was a big demonstration in Indore. Demonstrating in Bhopal also, the candidates demanded an inquiry to be conducted in 7 days, otherwise they have warned of a big agitation at the capital's Jamboree ground. Similar demonstrations were also held in other districts of the state.


What are allegations of irregularity?


7 candidates in top-10 in Patwari recruitment have figured from a college centre that belongs to BJP MLA. There is a dispute over the result of Group-2 (Sub Group-4) and Patwari Recruitment Examination conducted by Madhya Pradesh Staff Selection Board (SSB). 


The Gwalior center where 7 candidates from the top-10 list of the recruitment exam took the exam belongs to Bhind's BJP MLA Sanjeev Kushwaha. 114 people have been selected from this center. Candidates have demanded cancellation of the exam if there are 7 toppers from MLA's center.


Also, reports have surfaced that a few selected candidates who scored full 25 marks in English have signed their application forms in Hindi.


Congress has reacted strongly to the allegations, with Rahul Gandhi calling it 'Vyapam 2.0'. The protests have been reported across the state as thousands of youths gheraoed collector offices in Indore and Jabalpur.
