Maharashtra Raigad Khalapur Landslide: Village Buried In Massive Landslide, Over 120 Feared Trapped, 5 Bodies Retrieved


Raigad: A massive landslide has occurred in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur tehsil of Raigad district of Maharashtra. More than 120 people are feared trapped in it. Rescue operations have been launched after the landslide hit at midnight and five to six bodies have been retrieved so far.

 

The accident occurred at Irshalwadi village of Khalapur tehsil of Raigad district of Maharashtra. A settlement here was buried under rocks at about midnight following a landslide. More than 120 people are feared trapped in the debris. 


27 people evacuated


The rescue operation is going on after the midnight accident and till now five to six bodies have been retrieved. Also, a total of 27 people have been successfully evacuated, including two to three small children. Several rescue teams are working at the site. Rescue work is going on on a war footing and other stranded people are being evacuated.


90% of the village buried under debris


According to the initial information, 90% of the village has been buried under the debris. There was a large settlement of 30 to 35 tribal houses here. It is feared that there has been a huge loss of life in this accident. More than 120 people are feared trapped. So far the rescue team has managed to rescue a woman and two children. The soil and stones are still falling down. That's why rescue workers are also in danger.


DC Dattatreya Navale and DC Sarjerao Sonawane have been posted as OSD for medical aid and rescue operations respectively. Four ambulances have reached the spot. Four ambulances with health officer and four doctors are ready at RH Chowk.


Stones are still coming down from above due to strong winds


According to the initial information, 90 percent of the houses in this area have been destroyed and there is a possibility of loss of life and property. Relief teams have reached the spot. However due to strong wind stones are still coming down from above. This has also created a danger for the rescue team. But efforts are on to immediately evacuate those who are stranded.


Tehsildar Ayub Tamboli and his administration are monitoring the situation and several social work aid teams and rescue teams have reached the spot. Minister Dada Bhuse and MLA Mahesh Badali have also reached the spot.


It has been told that after the accident, some people got scared and ran towards the forest. A member of the emergency rescue team has said that only after people return, we will get the exact information about how many people may be trapped under this landslide.


Meanwhile, state cabinet minister Girish Mahajan has reached the spot. Minister Dadaji Bhuse also visited here early in the morning but due to strong wind and rain, he could not go up.
