The special thing of this village is that whenever a new house is built here, a hole is left by the owner of the house separately for snakes. This unique village, where people consider snakes as members of their house, is located in Sholapur district. The name of this village is Shetpal. People live with snakes in this unique village. 

 

It is surprising that these people do not live with small snakes, but the most poisonous and the king of snakes the King Cobra. There is no restriction on the movement of snakes in the villages. Nobody drives them away or kills them. People worship them in the village. If you go to this village, then you will also see children playing with snakes.

Snakes have now become a part of the lives of the people of Shetpal village. Whenever the people of the village build a house, they leave a place for snakes. This place is named Devasthan. Snakes come here and sit. However, till date no one is aware of when this tradition of living with snakes started or who started it. People worship them considering God


The people of the village worship snakes as an incarnation of Lord Shiva and offer milk. The people here have immense reverence for Lord Shiva, due to which they consider snakes as a member of their home. The special thing is that till date there has been no news of any kind of death due to snake bite in the village. However, people coming from outside are advised to bring milk, eggs and good luck.

Where do so many snakes come from?


Shetpal village is about two hundred kilometers from Pune. This area is plains and is a very favorable habitat for snakes. For this reason, snakes in such large numbers are found in the villages and surrounding areas. There is also another reason why snakes don't bite people. People are very conscious here and they make arrangements for snakes in advance.
