Installation of smart electricity meters in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh could begin from October. The Department of Telecom issued a certificate to the power company for using the SIM in the smart meter. In the beginning, installation of these meters will start in sensitive areas in terms of power theft.
Will be directly connected to control room
These post paid meters will be directly connected to the control room. In case of non-payment, electricity can be disconnected directly from the control room. Initially, the power company has taken 40 thousand sims. Principal Secretary of Energy Department Sanjay Dubey said that these meters will be installed from October.
Smart meters were installed in Indore
There are 5.50 lakh consumers of electricity in Bhopal. In Indore, about 3 years ago, these meters were first installed in sensitive areas prone to power theft. There are 7.20 lakh consumers in Indore. So far 5 lakh meters have been installed there.
No tampering can be done
These meters will have the complete profile of the consumer including consumer ID, name, meter number in the form of data.
No tampering can be done in the meter.
If someone does this, it will be known immediately in the control room.
Real time data on power consumption i.e. consumption will be available in the control room of the power company.
In case of non-payment, the consumer's connection can be disconnected only by sitting in the control room. There will be no need to go to the spot.
