Today people are not afraid of Malkhan Singh. While looking at him it is hard to believe that he is the same Malkhan who was once a synonym of terror in Chambal. Only the mention of his name was enough to make people tremble with fear. Malkhan Singh has now left the BJP and joined the Congress.
Campaigned for Modi in 2014
Malkhan Singh, who once campaigned for Narendra Modi in 2014, says he took up the gun against atrocities and rising crimes against women. Today again the same kind of atmosphere has been created by the BJP in Madhya Pradesh. He will campaign for Congress in entire Madhya Pradesh. He said that he will not contest the assembly elections but help the Congress to form the government.
Malkhan is now spending his life in his village
That was the 1980s. Malkhan was all powerful. He was called the Bandit King of India. In the year 1982, during the regime of then CM Arjun Singh, rebel Malkhan Singh surrendered. Leaving arms, now Malkhan is spending his life in his village. The Malkhan Singh in whose hands the thunder of AK-47 used to make Chambal tremble, that Malkhan will now be seen asking for votes for Congress instead of BJP.
Ruled the ravines for 15 years
Bandit leader Malkhan Singh ruled the ravines of Chambal for 15 years. At the same time, some dacoits were also active in the areas of Uttar Pradesh adjacent to Madhya Pradesh. One of them was Phoolan Devi. Phoolan had jumped into the ravine to avenge her gangrape.
Phoolan had gunned down 22 upper caste people. But Malkhan Singh and his gang were most feared in Chambal area. Malkhan Singh used to travel on foot in the areas of Chambal. There was no permanent abode.
Malkhan never camped at one place
Malkhan always lived with his companions by setting up temporary camps. Never camped at one place. He used to camp in areas having deep and narrow valleys with steep sides.
In the last 2018 assembly elections, Malkhan Singh was seen campaigning for BJP. In 2019 also, Malkhan sought votes for BJP only, now in 2023 and 2024 elections, he will be seen seeking votes for Congress.
94 cases registered against Malkhan Singh
Malkhan Singh remained a dacoit in Chambal for almost 4 decades. Later he surrendered before the then CM Arjun Singh during the Congress regime. Malkhan Singh said that he is not a dacoit. He had raised the gun to secure land of the village temple. He had surrendered as soon as it was handed over for the temple. Malkhan Singh surrendered in the year 1982.
During this period, 94 cases like kidnapping and murder along with dacoity were registered against Malkhan Singh and his gang. Then the government had also kept a reward of 70 thousand rupees for nabbing Malkhan Singh. At the same time, a message to surrender was sent to Malkhan Singh from the side of the government.
Had honourably released his enemy sarpanch’s daughter
Former bandit Malkhan Singh is considered a stickler for principles. In Chambal, Malkhan raised a gun against the sarpanch and jumped into the ravine after the excesses of the sarpanch. Once the daughter of his enemy Sarpanch was caught by the members of the Malkhan gang. When Malkhan came to know about this, he reprimanded the gang members. At the same time, he respectfully bid farewell to the girl after touching her feet and giving her a gift.
