Rajasthan: Two Student Suicides In A Day Rock Coaching Hub Kota; Six Youngsters Die In August Alone



Kota: Suicides by two young students have rocked Kota. The suicides occurred in coaching hub Kota, Rajasthan despite administration's recent measures to prevent the spate of suicides by youngsters preparing for various competitive exams. So far six students have taken the extreme step in Kota in the month of August alone.  In the year 2023, as many as 23 students have died of suicide in the coaching hub.


In the first incident, a student committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of the building of the coaching institute after giving the test in Kota, Rajasthan. The Collector had instructed the coaching centres not to hold tests for students on Sundays. Despite this, the test was being organised.


Two CCTV footages of the incident have come to the fore. In one footage, the student is seen running from the fifth floor to the sixth floor. The second footage shows him jumping and falling.


Deputy SP Dharamveer Singh said – The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. Aavishkar Sambhaji Kasle (16), a resident of Latur (Maharashtra), committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of his coaching institute. The student was living in Talwandi area of Kota for 3 years. 


Aavishkar was preparing for NEET


Singh said Aavishkar was preparing for NEET here. His maternal grandmother was also living with him for the last one and a half years. He had come to the coaching institute at Road No. 1 on Sunday to appear for the test.


According to Deputy SP Dharamveer, as soon as the test was over, he came out and jumped down from the balcony. He fell about 70 feet from the sixth floor. He suffered serious injuries on his head and body. As soon as the students and staff came to know, they reached the spot and informed the police.


Vigyan Nagar police station reached the spot and inspected. The body has been kept in the mortuary of MBS Hospital. At present, the reasons for the suicide are being investigated.


Was under stress due to low marks in coaching test


According to Deputy SP Dharamveer, Aavishkar was under stress due to low marks in his last coaching test. He is said to be good in studies, but was worried about his low marks in the coaching test. The police is also busy in getting information from the coaching staff.


Regarding the matter, District Collector OP Bunkar said that the coaching operators have been asked to give a week off to the children. They can keep it on Sunday or any other day as per their convenience. The matter will be investigated.


On August 12, the district administration held a meeting with the coaching operators. In this, Collector OP Bunkar had said that children are not getting a chance to relax. In the meeting earlier also instructions have been given to give Sunday holiday to the children. 


Another student died late Sunday night


Meanwhile, late Sunday night in Kunhadi area, another coaching student committed suicide by hanging himself. Adarsh was a resident of Bihar who was preparing for NEET while living in Kota. After giving the exam on Sunday, he came home and hanged himself. He got low marks in the last test.
