Bihar Releases Caste Census Data; This Is Percentage Of Backward Classes, Other Castes; CM Nitish Kumar Said This


Patna: Bihar government has released the caste census figures. In this, the population of extremely backward classes is 36%, backward class population is 27%, scheduled castes are slightly more than 19% and scheduled tribes are 1.68%


According to officials, in the caste based calculation the total population has been stated as 13 crore 7 lakh 25 thousand 310.


Development Commissioner and in charge Chief Secretary Vivek Singh said that in Bihar, the number of upper castes is 15.52%. Bhumihar population is 2.86%, Brahmin population is 3.66%, Kurmi population is 2.87%, Musahars are at 3%, Yadavc constitute 14% of the total population and Rajput population is 3.45%.


According to the caste census report, Hindus in Bihar are 81.99%, Muslims 17.70%, Christians 0.05%, Sikhs 0.011%, Buddhists 0.0851%, Jains 0.0096%, and other religions 0.1274%. Apart from this, 0.0016% people have no religion.


Report would aid in govt's initiatives for development of all sections: CM


The Bihar government has maintained that the survey is crucial for social justice. The Supreme Court did not halt the exercise, allowing the state to proceed with its plans.


Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who faced legal hurdles and opposition from the BJP over the survey, said that the report would aid in the state government's initiatives for the development and upliftment of all sections.


"Today, on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the data of the caste-based census conducted in Bihar has been published. Many congratulations to the entire team engaged in the work of caste-based enumeration!"


“Caste-based census also provides information about the economic condition of everyone. On the basis of this report, further action will be taken for the development and upliftment of all sections,” Nitish Kumar shared on 'X'.


RJD chief Lalu Yadav, said that it was a "historic moment”.


“Today, on Gandhi Jayanti, we all have become witness to this historic moment. Despite many conspiracies by the BJP and legal hurdles, the Bihar government released the caste-based survey,” the former Bihar Chief Minister tweeted.
