MP Elections-2023: Why Rasal Singh is in spotlight in Lahar assembly? What claims he made about outcome of election on this seat?

Gwalior: The Lahar Assembly seat in the Chambal region is generating significant political buzz, as the formidable Congress leader Dr. Govind Singh is once again contesting, pitted against BJP's candidate Ambrish Sharma Guddu. However, there's another candidate in the spotlight, Rasal Singh, an erstwhile BJP leader who has recently broken ranks with the BJP to run on a BSP ticket for the Lahar seat. Rasal Singh has made a noteworthy claim regarding the outcome of the election.

Rasal Singh asserts that those who were previously known for orchestrating booth capture on behalf of the Congress are now supporting his candidacy. These people are now committed to mobilizing voters to cast their votes for BSP . This statement by Rasal Singh has brought to light allegations of booth capturing during elections in Bhind. He made this declaration during a media interaction in the Daboh area of the Lahar Assembly.

'BJP cannot secure victory without involvement of Uma Bharti'

Furthermore, Rasal Singh has contended that the BJP cannot secure victory in the elections without the involvement of Uma Bharti. Not only that, Rasal Singh, despite having been a BJP candidate in the last two assembly elections, claims that it was the BJP itself that caused his defeats.

'BJP actively contributed to my electoral defeats'

Rasal Singh revealed that during the previous elections as a BJP candidate, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was scheduled to campaign in five assembly seats in Bhind district, but he only campaigned in four of them, omitting Lahar. This conveyed a message to the public and officials that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan intended for Rasal Singh to lose the election. Consequently, Rasal Singh contends that the BJP actively contributed to his electoral defeats.

Rasal Singh faced defeat at the hands of Dr. Govind Singh in 2013 and 2018

Rasal Singh has consistently been a staunch supporter of Uma Bharti. He served as a four-time MLA from the Raun assembly seat, but after the delimitation process in 2008, the Raun assembly seat was dissolved. Despite this, he contested the Lahar Assembly elections on the BJP ticket in 2013 and 2018, facing defeat both times at the hands of Congress candidate Dr. Govind Singh.

In the 2008 elections, the BJP candidate Munni Tripathi received a mere 2900 votes in the Lahar assembly seat. However, in the 2013 elections, BJP candidate Rasal Singh garnered over 50,000 votes, raising hopes that the BJP would nominate him in the current assembly elections. Yet, Rasal Singh was denied, ticket. It was instead given to Ambrish Sharma. Disgruntled by this decision, Rasal Singh rebelled against the BJP and chose to contest the elections on a BSP ticket.
