New Delhi: The sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express, the most modern train of Indian Railways, is going to be launched next year in 2024. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information on Tuesday. He has also shared pictures of this train. The sleeper coaches of the train look quite luxurious.
Will have 857 berths
Indian Railways is going to introduce sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express to provide more comfortable and luxurious travel experience. This sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express will have 857 berths, of which 823 will be reserved for passengers and 34 for staff members. Unlike the previous design, each coach will have three toilets, reducing crowding, and a mini pantry for the convenience of passengers.
Prototype of sleeper Vande Bharat likely to be ready in Dec 2023
According to the Railway Minister, the prototype of the sleeper Vande Bharat Express is expected to be ready in December 2023 and the first train will roll out of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai by March 2024.
The design has undergone several changes, including structural modifications to increase capacity. BEML is currently manufacturing ten sleeper Vande Bharat trains for ICF, the design of which has been developed in collaboration with ICF.
The Railway Ministry has entrusted manufacture of sleeper version coaches to two companies, BEML and BHEL-Titagarh Wagons JV. BEML, renowned for its experience in manufacturing railway coaches and metro rail rakes, will spearhead the creation of Vande Bharat rakes in its Bengaluru facility.
These sleeper trains will be valuable additions to the Indian Railways fleet, providing passengers the ability to travel long distances comfortably and efficiently overnight. Railways has awarded the contract to the consortium to manufacture 200 sleeper Vande Bharat trains. All these sleeper trains will adopt the same final design, ensuring uniformity.
Sleeper berths are designed for maximum comfort
The sleeper berths are designed for maximum comfort, including an easy-to-use ladder to the upper berth. It is expected that trains will provide better travel experience and more convenience. Currently, 33 Vande Bharat trains are running across the country with reclining seating facilities. A total of 75 such Vande Bharat trains are planned to be introduced, mostly on Shatabdi Express routes.
Plan to start 12 coach train Vande Metro
The new sleeper Vande Bharat Express trains are expected to provide more versatile and comfortable travel options for passengers. Apart from the sleeper Vande Bharat Express, there are plans to introduce Vande Metro, a 12-coach train designed for short distance travel. The prototype is expected to be ready by December, which will be launched in February next year.
