J&K: Bus falls into gorge in Doda, 36 die, 19 injured


On Wednesday, a tragic incident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, resulting in the loss of at least 36 lives and leaving 19 individuals injured. The incident involved a bus, registered as JK02CN-6555, which was carrying around 40 passengers. The bus skidded off the road near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar national highway, tumbling down a 300-foot gorge.


A rescue operation is undeerway with some bodies already recovered. The severely damaged bus has posed challenges to the rescue teams due to its fall from a substantial height. Authorities, including the police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, and local residents, are actively participating in the rescue efforts. The injured passengers are being transported to GMC Doda and GMC Jammu based on their medical needs.


Union Minister Jitendra Singh, representing Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag in Parliament, expressed his grief over the incident. He shared information from DC Doda, Harvinder Singh, stating that 36 people lost their lives, 19 were injured, and six of the injured are in serious condition. Singh assured that all possible assistance is being provided, extending sincere condolences to the grieving families.


PM expresses grief


The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.


The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted; “The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest.


An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.”
