Key Meeting of INDIA Bloc in Delhi Today; Will There Be Positive Headway In Seat Allocation

The eagerly awaited fourth gathering of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is scheduled to occur at the Ashoka Hotel in the heart of the national capital on Tuesday. Initially planned for December 6, the meeting was deferred due to the unavailability of key leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Bihar, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. All eyes will be on seat allocation in the meeting.

Abandon Zamindari culture: TMC urges Cong

Mamata Banerjee, the TMC supremo and Chief Minister of West Bengal, is already in New Delhi for the meeting and has proposed that the alliance's Prime Ministerial candidate be decided after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. On the eve of the INDIA bloc's meeting in New Delhi, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), a pivotal player in the alliance, called on the Congress to abandon its alleged "Zamindari culture." The TMC urged Congress to focus on presenting senior leaders like Mamata Banerjee as the face of the alliance.

Differences within Alliance would be resolved: Mamata

Mamata Banerjee expressed confidence that any differences within the alliance, including those related to seat sharing, would be resolved. She affirmed in New Delhi that a three-way alliance involving the TMC, Congress, and the Left was "very much possible" in West Bengal..

According to sources within the Congress, the alliance's members are set to deliberate on a constructive alternative agenda to counter the BJP. The coalition intends to advance with a unified theme, encapsulated by the slogan "Main nahin, hum (not I, we)," previously used by the Congress during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections that brought Prime Minister Narendra Modi to power.

A leader from the Samajwadi Party (SP) stated that they would advocate for discussions on seat sharing. Once the allocation of seats is finalized, the parties can proceed with candidate selection, organizational strengthening, and coordination with their respective local ally units.

Kejriwal held meetings with Banerjee and Uddhav Thackeray

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of AAP and Chief Minister of Delhi, held meetings with Banerjee and Uddhav Thackeray, the president of Shiv Sena (UBT), at his residence ahead of the meeting. Reports indicate that Kejriwal will participate in the alliance meeting before heading to an undisclosed location to attend a 10-day Vipassana meditation course starting Tuesday.

Seat-sharing will be on the agenda: Atishi

Leading up to today's INDIA bloc meeting, Atishi, an AAP leader and Delhi Minister, emphasized the party's commitment to the alliance's success. Atishi highlighted that crucial topics, including seat-sharing, will be on the agenda for discussion during the meeting.

Nitish Kumar's posters displayed in Patna

Posters featuring Bihar CM Nitish Kumar have been displayed in Patna, conveying the message: 'Agar sach mein jeet chahiye toh fir ek Nischay aur ek Nitish chahiye' (If you really want to win, you need determination and Nitish).

In the aftermath of the largest single-day purge in Parliament's history, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal expressed dismay, stating that the "mother of democracy" has been orphaned. The suspension of 78 MPs, combined with previous removals, occurred during a tumultuous session addressing the Parliament security breach.

Sibal called on the people of India to recognize the gravity of the situation and play a role in ensuring the survival of democracy.
