Who is Vishnu Deo Sai first tribal chief minister of Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Vishnu Deo Sai, the newly appointed chief minister of Chhattisgarh, emerges from the ranks of the BJP, having previously served as the state president.

The selection process for the chief ministerial role had been a subject of intense deliberation within the party following the BJP's convincing victory in Chhattisgarh, contrary to exit polls projecting a close contest with the Congress. Among the top contenders were Vishnu Deo Sai and former chief minister Raman Singh.

Vishnu Deo Sai, set to become the first tribal chief minister of Chhattisgarh, brings with him a wealth of political experience. He served as the state president of the BJP from 2020 to 2022 and held the position of Union Minister of State for Steel during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first term.

Additionally, Sai represented Chhattisgarh's Raipur constituency as a Lok Sabha member for the BJP. His active involvement is further evidenced by his membership in the BJP's national working committee.

Vishnu Deo Sai, hailing from Jashpur, initially pursued a career in agriculture before venturing into politics. He belongs to the Sahu (Teli) community.

In the recently concluded 2023 assembly election in Chhattisgarh, Sai emerged victorious in the Kunkuri constituency of north Chhattisgarh, defeating the incumbent Congress MLA, UD Minj.

Notably, Sai had previously secured four consecutive victories in the Lok Sabha elections from the Raigarh constituency, spanning from 1999 to 2014. However, he did not receive a ticket for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

The newly appointed chief minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, had also served as a Lok Sabha member from Raigarh. His political journey began as a member of the Madhya Pradesh assembly from 1990 to 1998, predating the formation of Chhattisgarh as a separate state from Madhya Pradesh.
