Lok Sabha Elections-2024: BJP Likely to Field Shivraj Singh Chouhan from This Constituency in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, may make a comeback to the Lok Sabha elections after a gap of 20 years, as the central leadership of the BJP considers redirecting his political trajectory.

With Shivraj not appointed as the Chief Minister, party leaders are contemplating a shift to the national stage for him. The discussion revolves around fielding Shivraj either from Vidisha or Chhindwara. Shivraj has represented Vidisha five times in the past.

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw Ramakant Bhargava as the BJP candidate from the Vidisha constituency.

Intriguingly, there are speculations within the party that Shivraj might be fielded from the Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP last won this seat in 1997 when former Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa defeated Kamal Nath. Since then, Nath has won the seat nine times, and in 2019, his son Nakul Nath secured victory.

Contrary to earlier speculations about Nath potentially joining the BJP, recent developments have put those rumors to rest. Sources suggest that if Nakul Nath contests on a Congress ticket, the BJP plans to field a formidable candidate from Chhindwara, with Shivraj being a potential choice.

Following his exclusion from the Chief Minister position, Shivraj has been actively engaging with party leaders, conducting meetings in various states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, and Odisha.

A recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shivraj has fueled speculation about Shivraj's candidacy in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP is expected to release its initial list of candidates in the first half of the next month, potentially revealing the chosen candidate for the Chhindwara constituency.
