Chhattisgarh: Bus full of laborers fall into ditch in Durg dist, 14 die


14 people have died after a bus full of laborers fell into a ditch in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. About 15 people have also been injured in the accident.


The accident happened near Kumhari of Durg. Employees of a private distillery company were travelling in the bus.


This incident happened on Tuesday night at around 8.30 pm. The bus reached near Khapri village and went out of control and fell into a 40 feet deep ditch.


Durg Collector Richa Prakash Choudhary said, "Twelve of the injured were referred and shifted to AIIMS (Raipur), while the remaining are receiving treatment at a private hospital. All of them are currently in stable condition and we are providing them with the best possible care." 


The process of evacuating passengers still trapped inside the bus was underway, she said, adding that the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained.


PM, CM express grief


The dependents of the deceased will get compensation of Rs 10 lakh each.


Prime Minister Modi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai have expressed grief over this accident.


PM Modi tweeted, "The accident that happened in Durg, Chhattisgarh is extremely sad. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in it. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, local administration is engaged in providing all possible help to the victims."


Meanwhile, expressing grief over the incident, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai took to his official X handle to post, "I was saddened by the news of a bus, packed with employees of a private firm, meeting with an accident near Kumhari in Durg.".


"I pray to the Almighty to bring peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families. Adequate arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured employees. I wish them a speedy recovery," the CM added.
