Madhya Pradesh: Anita Chauhan Faces Off Against Veteran Kantilal Bhuria in Tribal-Dominated Ratlam-Jhabua: What Are Their Strategies and Who Will Emerge Victor?

BJP candidate from Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam- Jhabua seat, Anita Chauhan is facing senior Congress tribal leader & former Congress state president and five-time MP from here, Kantilal Bhuria. Anita Chauhan is focusing on the weak links in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election campaign.

Bhuria is a seasoned & experienced leader while Anita is contesting a big election for the first time. Among the assembly constituencies falling under this parliamentary seat, BJP had to face defeat in Jhabua, Thandla, Jobat and Sailana seats in the recent assembly elections.

Anita Chauhan is confident that it will not be difficult to make inroads among the voters on the lost seats of Jhabua-Alirajpur, which is the home constituency of her MLA-minister husband Nagar Singh Chauhan.

BJP is in control of Ratlam, but Kamleshwar Dodiyar of Bharat Adivasi Party has won the tribal dominated assembly seat Sailana of Ratlam district. With the launch of Anita Chauhan's campaign, the focus is on the voters of Sailana area.

Anita Chauhan, along with BJP District General Secretary Nirmal Kataria, Sangeeta Charel and workers of Sailana Assembly, has started strategizing to bring those voters back to BJP’s fold who are feeling disillusioned with the saffron party. They have started campaigning in the parliamentary constituency with mass contact in Sailana.

Vikrant takes charge, trying to woo youths

On the other hand, unhappy with the defeat of his father Kantilal Bhuria in the 2019 elections, his son and State Youth Congress President Vikrant Bhuria has himself taken charge of the campaign. According to Kantilal Bhuria, in view of the defeat in last elections, Vikrant is trying hard to ensure victory for him (Kantilal) at any cost. Vikrant has laid more emphasis on booth management. Vikrant is handing over the responsibility to a group of 8-10 youths per booth.

Each team has been entrusted with the responsibility of going door-to-door to give information to the voters of the booth about the work done by the Congress government in the past, the 5 guarantees given by the Congress as per the manifesto and the development of the area during the tenure of Kantilal Bhuria.

Along with this, Vikrant is busy convincing the youth to vote in favor of Congress on the day of voting. Vikrant claims that we are winning in this election. He said Congress is working unitedly to convince the voters who got confused in the last election. Our workers are excited and full of enthusiasm, he said.

BJP did nothing in the name of development: Bhuria

Kantilal Bhuria has said that we have talked about development. He said BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh for 20 years and Delhi for 10 years, but did nothing in the name of development. Modiji had said that he will give jobs to 2 crore unemployed people every year, but no one got the job. He had said that he will waive off the loans of farmers, but did not do anything, so this is a party that only tells lies. Bhuria said that BJP is a party of slogans. Bhuria appealed to the public not to fall into the trap of BJP. If you want development then choose Congress, he said.

It is noteworthy that Ratlam-Jhabua parliamentary seat is one of the hottest tribal seats in the state. It is also called the traditional seat of Congress after Chhindwara. Congress was defeated here in the Modi wave of 2014. However, Congress regained this seat in the 2015 by-election. BJP won this seat in the 2019 elections. This time the contest has become triangular.
