'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh's mother arrested a day before proposed 'Chetna March'

Separatist Amritpal Singh's mother was arrested in Amritsar before a proposed march on Monday to demand the shifting of the 'Waris Punjab De' chief from the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam, where he has been lodged since his arrest in April 2023, to a prison in Punjab.

'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh's mother was arrested in Amritsar on Sunday a day before proposed 'Chetna March' .

On Monday, she was going to take out a march demanding transfer of Amritpal Singh from Dibrugarh jail in Assam to Punjab jail.

Amritpal, head of the 'Waris Punjab De' organisation, was arrested in April last year and the National Security Act was imposed against him.

Presently he and nine people with him are in Dibrugarh jail in Assam.

Deputy Commissioner Alam Vijay Singh said on Sunday that Amritpal's mother Balwinder Kaur has been sent to judicial custody, this is a precautionary arrest.

Police said that Amritpal's uncle Sukhchain Singh and three other people have also been arrested.

This arrest was made a day before the 'Chetna March' was to be taken out. A march was to be taken out from Takht Damdama Sahib in Bathinda on April 8 to demand that Amritpal and nine others be brought from Assam jail to Punjab jail.

Balwinder Kaur and the family members of the other arrested people were sitting on a hunger strike near the Golden Temple in Amritsar since February 22.
