Chhattisgarh accident: 14 women among 18 tribal laborers die as pickup vehicle falls into ditch in Kabirdham

At least 18 tribal laborers died in a road accident in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh. The deceased include 14 women.

Four laborers have been injured in the accident, whose condition is critical.

District police officials said that more than two dozen laborers from Kabirdham district were returning to their village Semraha in a pickup vehicle after plucking tendu leaves. Their pickup went out of control, overturned and fell into a ditch near Bahpani under Kukdur police station.

In this accident, 15 workers died on the spot. Apart from this, at least eight people were seriously injured. The dead include 14 women.

With the help of the district administration and local people, the injured have been admitted to the local hospital. Where three people died during treatment.

The condition of four people injured in this accident remains critical.

After being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operations.

Expressing grief over the accident that took place in his home district, State Home Minister Vijay Sharma has said that full arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured and the local administration is engaged in providing all possible assistance to the victims and their families.

All these laborers are residents of Semhara village who had gone to pluck tendu leaves when this accident happened. It is being told that this entire area falls in remote forest and hilly areas.

Giving information about this incident, Kabirdham SP Abhishek Pallav said that a pickup filled with 30 people fell into a ditch near village Bahpani under Kukdur police station area. He told that all these people had gone to pluck tendu leaves and this accident happened when they were returning. After receiving information about this incident, the police immediately left for the spot.

CM expresses grief

Chief Minister Sai shared information about the incident on his social media account on X, stating, "Sad news is being received of the death of 18 villagers and injuries to 4 others due to the overturning of a pickup near Bahpani village iof Kabirdham district. Necessary instructions have been given to the district administration for better treatment of the injured. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls and express deep condolences to their families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery."
