Ten people have died in two separate fire incidents in Delhi.
At least seven newborn babies have died in a fire incident in a children's hospital in Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi. In another incident, three died in fire at a residential building in Krishna Nagar.
According to Delhi Fire Service, information about the fire in the hospital was received through a call at 11.32 pm.
According to Delhi Fire Service officials, 12 children were rescued from the hospital but six of them died during treatment in the hospital.
Six other children have been kept on ventilator in the hospital.
Fire officer Rajesh Atwal said, “The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
The fire had also engulfed the building near the hospital.
Rajesh Atwal said, “Even before we reached here, some people were evacuated from here. We have rescued a total of 12 people who have been admitted to the hospital.”
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and a case has been filed against the owner of the hospital. However, it is suspected that the fire broke out after a blast in an oxygen cylinder.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the fire at the children's hospital was "heart-rendering".
"The causes of the incident are being investigated and whoever is responsible for this negligence will not be spared," he posted on X.
