President Murmu arrives in Shimla on 5-day visit; will attend convocation of Himachal Pradesh Central University on May 6


Shimla: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Shimla on Saturday on a five-day official visit.


Murmu landed at Kalyani helipad at 1035 am in a special Air Force helicopter along with Rashtrapati Bhavan staff. Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla welcomed her. The President is on a visit to Himachal Pradesh from May 4 to May 8.


She was earlier scheduled to land at Jubarhati Airport at 1100 hours, but it was learned that mainly due to clear weather, the President's plane landed at the Kalyani Helipad near Rashtrapati Bhavan The Retreat in Shimla. The entire road from Shimla to the retreat was sensitive to ensure the safety of the President.


During her visit, the President will stay at the President's residence in Mashobra, Shimla. The President will attend the 7th Convocation of Himachal Pradesh Central University in Dharamshala on May 6. On May 7, the President will attend a cultural program at Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex, Shimla.


A large number of jawans have been deployed to maintain the traffic system better. The guards has also been increased on ridge and Mall Road. 1200 police officers and jawans have been deployed in security arrangements.


Murmu will visit Kufri on May 5


Murmu will visit catchment area Kufri on May 5. On May 6, she will participate in the convocation ceremony of Central University Dharamshala. She will offer worship to Sankat Mochan and Taradevi in the morning on May 7. In the afternoon she will visit Mal Road and Ridge Maidan. In the evening there is a program at the Gaiety Theatre.


Later, she will attend a dinner hosted by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh at the Raj Bhavan in Shimla. Civil society and mass movements across Himachal issued an appeal not to use flexi-plastic banners in elections 2024. The President will return to Delhi on May 8.
