Wrestling: Aman Sehrawat secures Paris Olympics quota

Aman Sehrawat secured the first quota for India in the men's wrestling event of Paris Olympics.

He has secured the first quota in men's wrestling for the Paris Olympics. Aman Sehrawat achieved the quota of 57 kg freestyle wrestling.

Aman, the Under-23 World champion and also the senior Asian Championship title winner, was expected to put up a strong show and he did not disappoint.

The 20-year-old Aman, who trains at Delhi's Chhatrasal stadium, got double digit scores in all his three bouts, winning two of them by technical superiority.

He is the first Indian male wrestler to secure berth for Paris Games, saving the country from embarrassment of no qualification in the men's section.

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi Dahiya also competes in 57kg and if WFI holds trials for the Olympics, Aman may have to wrestle with him to book his Paris ticket.

Before this, five women wrestlers have achieved quota for Paris Olympics.

In the semi-finals of 57 kg category of World Wrestling Olympic Qualifier, Aman Sehrawat defeated the North Korean wrestler 12-2.

However, in the 86 kg category, India's Deepak Punia missed the quota for Paris Olympics.

Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia, who won medals for India in the Tokyo Olympics, have not been able to achieve the quota for the Paris Olympics.

Vinesh Phogat and Anshu Malik have got the quota for Paris Olympics.
