Bhopal News: Families displaced from Bhadbhada Basti gherao Collectorate, demand housing


Bhopal: People displaced from Bhadbhada Basti gheraoed the Collectorate on Tuesday. The people of the displaced families, including women and children, reached the Collectorate at 9:30 am on Tuesday. At that time neither any police force was deployed nor was any officer there. They went straight inside the gate and started protesting at the main gate of the Collectorate. 


Former Congress MLA PC Sharma and Municipal Corporation Leader of Opposition Shabista Zaki were also present with them. Many women sat down at the main gate with their children. An elderly woman fainted during the protest.


They said that in February, the district administration had removed them after the order of NGT, but did not give provide a house to them in exchange for a house. Due to this, they have become homeless today. The one lakh rupees that were given to them were also spent on rent.


Most of the protesters belong to the Muslim community. All of them used to live with their families in Bhadbhada Basti, but are homeless since the bulldozer action.


Poor families forced to live in rented rooms


The protesting women said that the administration has demolished their concrete houses, but has not provided any help till now. The affected families have neither been provided land nor PM Housing. In such a situation, poor families are forced to live in rented rooms. They have demanded from the administration that land or house should be provided to them as soon as possible. So that they do not have to face problems during the rainy season.


Protesters submitted a memorandum to Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh demanding immediate assistance.



No arrangement made for rehabilitation of displaced families: Zaki


Bhopal Municipal Corporation's Leader of Opposition Shabista Zaki said that the administration has rendered more than 400 families homeless, but no arrangement has been made for rehabilitation of the displaced families of the colony till now. Whereas, during the action, they were assured of getting a house or land. The administration should fulfill their demands as soon as possible.


Encroachments were removed on orders of NGT


After the order of NGT, the district administration has removed the encroachment of Bhadbhada Basti on the banks of Upper Lake. The residents were given three days to remove the encroachment.


Loan facility for PM housing


Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh said that the residents who want houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will be given loans and houses on applying. The district administration will provide them full support. A site has also been selected in Chandbad. They can shift there as well. They can also shift along with taking the cheque for the compensation amount.
