T20 World Cup 2024: Festive atmosphere across country; President, PM Modi greet Team India


There is a festive atmosphere across the country after India's victory over South Africa in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024.


As soon as India won over South Africa on Saturday night, cricket fans came out on the streets in big and small cities of the country including the capital Delhi.


The people gathered on the streets. They celebrated by beating drums and bursting crackers. People were offering sweets to each other and congratulating each other.


Thousands of cricket fans gathered at India Gate in Delhi. They were dancing and singing while waving the tricolour. Police force had to be deployed on the streets to control this crowd of cricket lovers in Delhi.


At Mumbai airport, fans were seen dancing to the beats of drums, and out on roads, many revellers climbed atop vehicles. Streets in Kolkata were lit with firecrackers and shouts and whistles of irrepressible fans. In Bengaluru, many fans wearing Team India's attire were seen dancing in pubs and outside eateries.


Cricket lovers were also seen celebrating in Kolkata and Chennai. The celebration of cricket fans in cities like Hyderabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Patna, Ranchi was worth seeing.


President, PM congratulate Team India


President Droupadi Murmu greeted Team India.


She said, "My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the T20 World Cup. With a never-say-die spirit, the team sailed through difficult situations and demonstrated outstanding skills throughout the tournament. It was an extraordinary victory in the final match. Well done, Team India!"


The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, congratulated the Indian Cricket Team for winning the T20 World Cup today.


He posted a video, saying that the whole country is proud of the team's achievement and applauded its performance, adding that they made this tournament even more compelling by winning every single match.

The Indian team defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final match of the T20 World Cup played in Barbados on Saturday.


In the 2024 final, held in the West Indies and the United States, India won its second title against South Africa, equaling England and West Indies with the most titles in T20 World Cup. India became the first country to win the tournament without losing any game.
